From the Athletic Director,
As our seasons progress, I would like to take the time to remind everyone of some of our policies and rules. Sportsmanship continues to be a top priority. Please make sure to remember that as players, coaches, and fans, we all represent Rome everytime we are at an athletic contest. Also, if parents or players have concerns about your teams, the first step is to contact your coaches. Please make sure we are following the chain of command and allowing for our 24 hour rule.

Message from the Athletic Director:
Players, Parents, and Fans,
I would like to take a moment and remind everyone about the SIJHSAA response to poor sportsmanship:
For a first ejection of the school year:
1. A fan ejection will increase from a 2-game suspension to 3 games.
2. A player ejection will increase from a 1-game suspension to 2 games.
3. A coach ejection will increase from a 1-game suspension to 2 games.
For multiple ejections in the same school year:
1. Any fan who is ejected twice (2 times) will result in the fan not being allowed to attend any SIJHSAA event for the remainder of the school year.
2. Any player who is ejected twice will result in a 4-game suspension.
3. Any coach who is ejected twice will result in a 4-game suspension.
Also, any fan, player, or coach who has been ejected from a SIJHSAA event must complete the Sportsmanship Course on the NFHS website before being permitted to attend any SIJHSAA events. The course completion certificate must be submitted to their home school to complete the period and terms of the suspension.
It is also important to remember that what you say is a reflection on our players and our school. Even if you feel you are being supportive of our players, some fans on the other side may take what is being said as antagonistic and can lead to greater problems. Let us all work on being great fans for our athletes and good role models of sportsmanship.

We are still in need of a 3rd grade cheer coach. If you would are interested or willing, please email Mr. Smith at csmith@rome2.net

We will be having our parent meeting for Boys Basketball on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:30. We will be meeting in the cafeteria after practice. Each player needs to have a parent attend this meeting and it should not last much more than 30 minutes. There will be some documents that need to be signed, payment of activity fees, discussions on rules and procedures, and concession information.

A recent dental exam is required for all students in the Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grades. Dental Safari will be coming to Rome School on November 2nd. If you would like your student to receive a dental exam by the Dental Safari dentist, please register online or return the Dental Safari paperwork to the nurse's office before the end of October. The paperwork will be sent home today.

I want to apologize for all the confusion and all the changes this week. We are continually striving to improve communication between the Athletic Director, coaches, parents, athletes, and the district. With all the moving parts this week, errors can be made. Again, I want to apologize and thank everyone for their understanding.
Mr. Smith, Athletic Director

Parents and Fans,
The SIJHSAA has changed the penalties for ejections from games for coaches, players, and fans. I want to remind everyone that Rome Grade School will strictly enforce these penalties and that these ejections can come from officials and administrators from our school or that of the host team. The use of profane language and threats, actual or perceived, can not and will not be tolerated. I know that tempers can run high when our children are involved but please remember that you are representing our school and your child’s team and that you are ultimately responsible for your words and your actions. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school and speak to the Athletic Director.
